It is only February 3rd and there is still plenty of snow on the ground from this last, once every 20 years, snow storm that we get here in the Charlotte area - BUT - I’m already thinking about spring and the 2026 gardening season.

This year I tried something new. I learned that peppers are perennial, if they don’t freeze. So, I dug up two of my plants last fall, trimmed them back significantly and kept them potted in my garage and when I got really cold, in my workshop. I look forward to see if they are going to indeed come back to life in the spring when I move them back in my raised beds.

Notice how the plants lean heavily to one side. That’s because when I had them in the raised beds they were maybe a bit too close to each other and were fighting for sun. This year I promise I’m going to plan less plants and have them spaced apart even better.
