We had some IKEA Billy bookcases on this wall for years but we finally spent some time improving the office. I converted the bookcases to built-ins which involved getting into the Large crown molding and installing lighting. We did a color drench on the ceiling, trim, and walls as well.
Before and After

Construction
Quick video to get approval of our design from our interior designer (she loved it). I modeled using Sketchup. The only thing we changed was the light spacing.

Ensuring the base and first vertical spacer are level/plumb.

I expanded the outlet to a double gang and installed a wireless dimmer/controller in the second slot. You can barely see this in the bottom left shelf. Here the light has been pulled through the wall into the future void above the shelves.

Keeping things plumb, flush, and level is part art, part science as walls are never straight. I do the best I can and split the difference to make imperfections less noticeable.

Framing is done, time for trim.

The top was longer than 8ft so I had to use two pieces on the front. I lapped them at a 45 degree angle and added some tabs on the back so I could pull them flush.
Ready for Paint
Finally, the built-in is ready for paint!
